Photo Of Pope Francis In His Coffin Turns Heads After People Spot Small Detail

Vatican Shares Images of Pope Francis Lying in Repose

In a deeply symbolic moment, the Vatican released images of Pope Francis lying in repose at the Casa Santa Marta chapel, his former residence. Dressed in red liturgical vestments and a papal mitre, he rests in a simple wooden coffin, holding a rosary and wearing a modest silver ring—a reflection of his humility.

Cardinal Kevin Farrell, serving as camerlengo, led the official declaration of death and now oversees Vatican operations until a new pope is chosen. In contrast to traditional papal funerals, Francis requested an open coffin and eschewed the customary triple-casket burial.

The chapel, rich in Christian symbolism, features inscriptions and design elements honoring the Holy Trinity. Swiss Guards stand vigil as the world prepares to bid farewell.

His body will remain at Casa Santa Marta until Wednesday, when a procession will move it to St. Peter’s Basilica. The funeral is set for Saturday, offering global mourners a chance to honor a pope remembered for compassion, simplicity, and deep faith.
