Remembering Anthony Geary, Emmy-Winning Star of General Hospital

The entertainment world is mourning the loss of acclaimed actor Anthony Geary, best known for his iconic role as Luke Spencer on General Hospital. Geary passed away on December 14, 2025, at the age of 77. His husband, Claudio Gama, confirmed the news, describing the loss as completely unexpected. After retiring from television in 2015, Geary chose a quieter life in Amsterdam, where the couple built a home centered on routine, companionship, and peace.

In the days before his passing, there were no public signs of concern. Gama later revealed that Geary died following complications related to a scheduled medical procedure, a reminder of how suddenly life can change. A brief social media post shared shortly before his death reflected an ordinary evening—preparing dinner, spending time with their longtime pet, and planning to return home soon. In hindsight, that moment of normalcy has taken on deeper meaning for those grieving his loss.

Tributes quickly poured in from across the television industry. General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini praised Geary’s extraordinary talent and enduring influence, noting that his work set a standard rarely matched. ABC Entertainment highlighted his eight Daytime Emmy Awards and his role in shaping some of the most memorable moments in daytime television. Former co-stars also shared personal memories. Genie Francis remembered Geary as a creative force who elevated everyone around him, while John Stamos recalled being inspired by his dedication and generosity early in his career.

Geary’s passing came on a day already marked by grief in Hollywood, as filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife also died in an unrelated tragedy. Amid the sadness, fans and colleagues have chosen to focus on what endures—Anthony Geary’s groundbreaking work, lasting relationships, and a legacy defined by originality, commitment, and heart.
