In a candid interview with Variety magazine, Hanks revealed the primary reason behind his decision – the overwhelming prevalence of what he perceives as “wokeness” in Hollywood.
The Oscar-winning actor expressed deep concerns about the direction of the entertainment industry,
particularly the increasing emphasis on political correctness and social activism in film projects. Hanks lamented that the focus on ideological agendas has overshadowed the artistry and storytelling that initially drew him to acting.
“I can’t handle the wokeness anymore,” Hanks stated emphatically during the interview. “It’s become more about ticking boxes and promoting certain agendas than creating meaningful and entertaining content.”
