Missouri Walmart to replace self-checkout lanes to ‘improve the store experience’

At one point self-checkout lanes reigned supreme, but then customers began to get fed up with their constant errors while companies noticed theft on the rise.

Recently, some retailers announced changes to their checkout process in hopes of cutting back on shoplifting and winning back their customers.

Company-wide Target limited its self-checkout lanes to 10 items, while Dollar General removed the lanes from 300 of their stores. Meanwhile, a Missouri Walmart is going one step further.
This past weekend a Walmart near St. Louis, Missouri removed all of their self-checkout lanes.

According to local reports, staffed checkout lanes will replace the self-checkout lanes.

The change is expected to “improve the store experience.”

“The decision was based on several factors, including feedback from associates and customers, shopping patterns and business needs in this area,” Brian Little, the Global Communications Director for Walmart Corporate Affairs, said. “We believe the change will improve the in-store shopping experience and give our associates the chance to provide more personalized and efficient service.”
