Despite being instructed not to sing religious songs, particularly those mentioning Jesus, Gill, a devout Christian, faced a dilemma.

Undeterred, Gill chose to defy the directive creatively. Instead of forgoing his beliefs, he sang “Why Me Lord,” a soul-stirring composition by Kris Kristofferson, famously performed by legends like Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash. The audience’s reaction was a resounding ovation, affirming the power of Gill’s performance.
