{"id":11337,"date":"2025-04-04T13:52:01","date_gmt":"2025-04-04T13:52:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kohajone.press\/?p=11337"},"modified":"2025-04-04T13:52:02","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T13:52:02","slug":"us-senator-fights-back-tears-as-he-breaks-record-with-24-hour-senate-speech-targeting-trumps-agenda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kohajone.press\/?p=11337","title":{"rendered":"US Senator fights back tears as he breaks record with 24-hour Senate speech targeting Trump\u2019s agenda"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/supremenews5.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/resize-5.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Senator Cory Booker broke the record for the longest speech given on the Senate Chamber floor on Tuesday<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Senator Cory Booker was left holding back tears after he broke the record with a whopping 24-hour long speech.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the New Jersey&nbsp;senator&nbsp;unsuccessfully ran for president back in 2020, he managed to talk for more than 24 hours with hardly any breaks during his speech on the Senate Chamber floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He officially started his speech \u2013 which heavily criticised&nbsp;President Donald Trump&nbsp;and his administration\u2019s policies \u2013 at 7pm on Monday night (31 March) and was still talking at 19:20 on Tuesday evening (1 April).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some 15 hours in, at 10am on Tuesday morning, he said \u2018I\u2019ve got fuel in the tank, man\u2019 as he paced around the podium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His speech has broken the previously held record set in 1957 by Democrat Strom Thurmond, with the original filibuster speech lasting 24 hours and 18 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unbelievably, Booker didn\u2019t leave the chamber once \u2013 not even to take a bathroom break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Booker began his speech by saying: \u201cI rise with the intention of disrupting the normal business of the United States Senate for as long as I am physically able\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is the first Black senator for New Jersey, and he began the 19th minute and 24th hour of his record-breaking speech by talking about the late civil rights leader John Lewis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon realising he had broken the record, a visibly emotional Booker raised his eyes up to the ceiling, and placed one hand over his heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fellow Democrats in the chamber applauded his efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 55-year-old senator explained: \u201cAll right, I want to go a little bit past this and then I\u2019m going to deal with some of the biological emergencies I\u2019m feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.ladbible.com\/resize?type=webp&amp;quality=70&amp;width=3840&amp;fit=contain&amp;gravity=auto&amp;url=https:\/\/images.ladbiblegroup.com\/v3\/assets\/blt949ea8e16e463049\/blt46517e1bc6037d63\/67ed33fd306eb9c0f42e2ef4\/cory-booker-speech.jpg\" alt=\"Senator Cory Booker has broken the record for the longest speech given on the Senate Chamber floor (ROBERTO SCHMIDT\/AFP via Getty Images)\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Senator Cory Booker has broken the record for the longest speech given on the Senate Chamber floor (ROBERTO SCHMIDT\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know what John Lewis would say right now\u2026 but John Lewis would say something, he would do something. He wouldn\u2019t treat this moral moment like it was normal,\u201d Booker said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In what he called \u2018America\u2019s moral moment\u2019, Booker took aim at the Trump administration\u2019s \u2018complete disregard for the rule of law, the Constitution, and the needs of the American people\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cI rise tonight because I believe sincerely that our country is in crisis, I believe that not in a partisan sense, because so many of the people that have been reaching out to my office in pain, in fear, having their lives upended \u2014 so many of them identify themselves as Republicans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also criticised&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/elon-musk\">Elon Musk<\/a>&nbsp;and what he called Trump\u2019s \u2018oligarchy\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Booker insisted: \u201cThis is the people\u2019s house. It\u2019s Article One of the Constitution, and it\u2019s under assault!
