But as their feet touched the ground, a different kind of gravity set in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lajmesot.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/UK-1024x512.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-58808\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On Monday afternoon, April 14, six high-profile women boarded a Blue Origin rocket owned by Jeff Bezoz and soared into space. Among them were singer Katy Perry, Bezoz\u2019s fianc\u00e9e, Lauren Sanchez, and Gayle King. The flight, widely publicized and branded as a historic moment for women in space travel, was a short suborbital trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DIaD4bjsAde\/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet\">https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DIaD4bjsAde\/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the return to Earth brought more than just applause. Social media lit up within hours, and criticism poured in. Many users questioned the purpose of the mission. For some, it felt disconnected from the issues grounded on Earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As headlines celebrated a symbolic breakthrough, a growing number of voices online began to echo a different sentiment \u2014 one of disappointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hours after Blue Origin\u2019s all-women crew returned from their brief journey to space, criticism flooded in from all directions. What was promoted as a milestone for representation in space travel quickly drew accusations of excess, privilege, and performative activism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Model and actress Emily Ratajkowski was among the first to speak out. In a TikTok video, she questioned the purpose and symbolism of the launch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat space mission this morning\u2026 Like, this is beyond parody,\u201d she said. \u201cThat you care about Mother Earth and it\u2019s about Mother Earth, and you\u2019re going up in a spaceship that is built and paid for by a company that\u2019s singlehandedly destroying the planet?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her video gained traction and sparked even more commentary. Many agreed, calling the mission tone-deaf and out of touch with global realities.\u00a0<em>&#8220;So disappointed what people do with power and money,&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>one person\u00a0wrote. The money used to send them to space could have been used to actually help women in so many ways,&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>a post\u00a0<u>read<\/u>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others drew attention to real-world struggles that felt overshadowed.\u00a0<em>&#8220;Nearly 14 million children in the US experience food insecurity every year,&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>someone\u00a0<u>wrote<\/u>.\u00a0<em>&#8220;Fourteen MILLION children don&#8217;t know where their next meal is coming from, but yeah, Blue Origin looks cool.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Environmental concerns surfaced too.\u00a0<em>&#8220;A rocket launch gives off 200\u2013300 tons of carbon dioxide,&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0one comment\u00a0<u>noted<\/u>, questioning the ecological cost of a symbolic joyride. On YouTube, the criticism intensified.<em>\u00a0&#8220;Hilarious how we are celebrating multimillionaires buying seats to space from billionaires after we gutted NASA,&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>someone\u00a0<u>wrote<\/u>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another viewer\u00a0<u>said<\/u>,\u00a0<em>&#8220;The Earth is so profound, but I\u2019m rich enough to offset the carbon footprint of me travelling [sic] nowhere achieving nothing, when that money could have been spent changing the lives of many.
