Pat Sajak, the show\u2019s host for the past 40 years, has revealed his decision to hang up the microphone and leave the venerable game show.<\/p>\n<p>Sajak originally hinted at his departure from the show back in 2021, so retirement has been a long time coming for him. In his words to Entertainment Tonight, \u201cWe\u2019re closer to the end than the beginning.\u201d Before viewers turn in and ask, \u201c\u2018Ooh, what happened to him?\u2019 I would rather go.\u201d<br \/>\nThe Daytime Emmy winner hinted at his exit once more the year after, telling the same publication he is satisfied he has performed his obligations to the best of his ability and is prepared to hand the reins over to someone else.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYears pass quickly. The end is almost here,\u201d he said. \u201cBeing in people\u2019s living rooms for so long is an honor. People were greeting us outside. We are happy and proud.\u201d<br \/>\nSajak is prepared to say goodbye after appearing on \u201cWheel of Fortune\u201d for over 40 years.<br \/>\nPat Sajak will stop hosting \u201cWheel of Fortune\u201d after the 2023\u20132024 season. In a tweet, the iconic host revealed he was ending his record-breaking reign as the longest-running game show presenter on television.<br \/>\n\u201cWell, now is the right time. Our 41st season, which starts in September, will be my last, I\u2019ve decided,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI\u2019ll have more to say in the upcoming months. It\u2019s been a beautiful trip. Thank you all very much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA timeless symbol of hilariously dry humor and fun in my home\u2026 Thank you for 42 wonderful years,\u201d one supporter commented. \u201cI\u2019ve spent the most of my life watching you! My favorite program is @WheelofFortune!\u201d Another person said, \u201cThank you for all the lovely years.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cWheel of Fortune\u201d has been directed by Sajak since 1981.
