In 2014, Rolling Stone<\/em> launched Rolling Stone Country and with it they released a list of 100 of the best country songs. In honor of the site\u2019s 10th anniversary, they expanded the list to include 100 more songs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe new list gave us more room to go deeper into the music\u2019s rich history, including some aspects that didn\u2019t get enough attention the first time around,\u201d Rolling Stone said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The list includes hits from Loretta Lynn to Brandi Carlile to Jimmie Davis to Kenny Chesney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While there\u2019s a good mix of old and new country in the list of 200, the top five songs pay tribute to the earlier days of the genre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe Stopped Loving Her Today\u201d by George Jones came in fifth; \u201cI\u2019m So Lonesome I Could Cry\u201d by Hank Williams claimed the fourth spot; \u201cCrazy\u201d by Patsy Cline clinched the third spot; and \u201cI Walk the Line\u201d by Johnny Cash grabbed the second spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, who was crowned number one?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dolly Parton<\/a>\u2018s \u201cJolene\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rolling Stone<\/em> called it the \u201cultimate country heartbreak song.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was telling my own stories, speaking my own feelings,\u201d Parton told\u00a0Rolling Stone<\/em>\u00a0in 1975. \u201cI\u2019m a pretty bold person.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since it\u2019s 1973 release, the song has been covered by countless artists. Beyonc\u00e9 is just one of the most recent artists to cover the chart-topping song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congratulations, Dolly! In my opinion, \u201cJolene\u201d is definitely the best country song ever.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
