Dogs are the most loyal pets you can have. Once they\u2019re part of your life, they\u2019ll love you forever\u2014no matter how far or how long you\u2019re apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s always beautiful watching people reunite with their dogs<\/a>, especially people who have been away from home for military service<\/a>. For one young woman, there was no greater feeling in the world than coming home to see her old dog again\u2014and they\u2019re reunion was truly beautiful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2015, 21-year-old Army private Hannah Foraker left her home in Ohio to attend 10 weeks of basic training. It was the first time she had really been away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have never been away from home before, so this was a huge deal for me,\u201d she told Today<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s truly a character building experience and makes you appreciate the little things in life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While it was an exciting step in her life and career, it wasn\u2019t without sadness: for one, it meant having to be apart from her beloved old dog<\/a>, Buddy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Buddy was a 13-year-old golden retriever. The two had grown up together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe\u2019s very old and has arthritis and is mostly deaf,\u201d Hannah told Buzzfeed<\/a>. \u201cBut I still remember getting her as a puppy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt pulled at my heartstrings, to say goodbye, though having never actually left home before I didn\u2019t realize the importance of giving proper goodbyes,\u201d she told Today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But after three months apart, Hannah returned home for the holidays\u2026 and no one was more excited to see her than her old dog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe opened the front door and she came running out and greeted me and my family, but then kind of did a double take and came back to me,\u201d she told Buzzfeed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe was completely overwhelmed and she couldn\u2019t even stand up.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Buddy was so overwhelmed with joy that she collapsed in Hannah\u2019s lap, just wanting to be close with his old friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe just collapsed in pure happiness,\u201d Hannah told Today. \u201cShe just wanted me to hug her and reaffirm that I was actually there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That video has gone viral, gaining nearly 7 million views on YouTube.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a beautiful reunion\u2014and that was only the beginning: the old dog really perked up during Hannah\u2019s visit home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy parents were so astonished by how happy she was during my time at home,\u201d Hannah told Buzzfeed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe normally has trouble going up and down the stairs and takes shorter walks, but now that I was home she was so happy and active. She would get up and do her happy dance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n
