A farmer in Australia got the shock of his life when he went to collect the daily delivery of eggs from his hens.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of his hens had laid a giant egg, three times the size of a normal egg and weighing 6.2 ounces.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The babushka egg was laid by a free-range chicken at the Stockman\u2019s Eggs on the Atherton Tablelands, in north Queensland.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scott Stockman, who runs the business, posted a photo of the incredible discovery he and his staff made at the farm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seeing it next to an average-sized egg it looks so unusual but perhaps what was more unusual was what they found after they cracked the egg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inside the egg was another egg, perfectly formed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just incredible actually \u2014to have two perfectly formed eggs together,\u201d Scott told ABC News Australia.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

An expert from Charles Sturt University\u2019s veterinary sciences school said he had never seen anything like it before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Associate Professor Raf Freire says the hen must have produced an egg as normal but for some reason didn\u2019t lay it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThen the next day, rather than that egg being laid, like it usually is, what\u2019s happened is that there\u2019s been another ovum released,\u201d he told ABC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s come down and then the chicken has somehow decided to make its shell around both the previous day\u2019s egg and the new ovum that\u2019s come down.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the experts the egg would have been safe to eat but Scott told\u00a0ABC News<\/a>\u00a0that they get 50,000 eggs a day so \u201cdidn\u2019t bother eating it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
