Oprah Winfrey<\/a>\u00a0was rushed to the hospital earlier this week and her good friend Gayle King is finally giving fans the details on what happened. Keep reading to learn more about what landed Oprah in the hospital.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gayle King kicked off Oprah Winfrey\u2019s \u2018Oprah\u2019s Book Club\u2019 on CBS earlier this week. Oprah is usually in the studio, happy to introduce her own pick but it seems this time the media personality was missing in action<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, her friend\u00a0Gayle King<\/a>\u00a0was there to take over and explain her friend\u2019s unexpected absence. She explained to author David Wroblewski, who was in the studio, why the media giant was not there herself to talk about her book of choice, Familiaris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m so glad you are here and I\u2019m so sorry that Oprah<\/a> can\u2019t\u2026,\u201d King said to Wroblewski. \u201cYesterday, she said, \u2018I\u2019m gonna rally, I\u2019m gonna rally.\u2019 She had some kind of stomach flu where stuff was coming out of both ends.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

King\u2019s co-hosts, Nate Burleson and Tony Dokoupil, both made an audible reaction to this piece of news.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI won\u2019t get too graphic,\u201d King continued<\/a>. \u201cBut needless to say, she ended up in the hospital [for] dehydration and had to get an IV. It was a very serious thing. She\u2019s OK\u2026 she will be OK.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

King might have realized she gave too much information because she went on to talk of how Oprah would have loved to be there in person to celebrate the author herself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI hope she\u2019s not mad at me for sharing that detail,\u201d King sheepishly added. \u201cI wanted to make it clear though it mattered to her and it really bothered her that she couldn\u2019t be here today, but we will pick up the slack.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

King, Burleson, and Dokoupil conversed with the author, who had been previously selected by Oprah\u2019s Book Club in 2008. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A statement on the Oprah Daily<\/em> Instagram account that explained her absence from the show was also released following Gayle\u2019s admission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c@oprah was scheduled to go on @cbsmornings today to announce her latest @oprahsbookclub selection. When she came down with a stomach virus over the weekend, @gayleking\u2014being the best friend she is\u2014offered to make the announcement for her,\u201d the caption read. \u201cWe are happy to share that after receiving an IV due to dehydration at the recommendation of her doctor, Oprah is feeling much better. We wish her a speedy recovery .\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The caption was accompanied by an official statement<\/a> from Oprah and her team. It read, \u201cMs. Winfrey is recovering following a stomach virus and received an IV due to dehydration at the recommendation of her doctor. She is resting and feeling better every day.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later on Tuesday, King executed a video call with Winfrey in which the latter clarified that she had not been hospitalized but rather received fluids at the emergency room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was in the emergency room. I was so dehydrated,\u201d Winfrey shared. Adding, \u201cI had dry mouth and I couldn\u2019t keep enough water down to get hydrated, so I went to the emergency room for that, and that\u2019s just it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked how she was doing now, she said, \u201cI\u2019m not 100, but I\u2019m on my way to 100.\u201d She shared how appearing on CBS Mornings <\/em>on Tuesday was out of the question for her since she was \u201ctoo weak to get on a plane.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the caption of her post, King reiterated, \u201cShe was sidelined with a stomach virus that caused such dehydration that she went to the hospital<\/a> to get an IV drip.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI thought I made that clear but next thing I know I\u2019m surprised to see headlines that scream \u2018Oprah\u2019s hospitalized!\u2019 (She was NOT!) And I\u2019m bombarded with calls asking if Oprah is okay,\u201d King clarified. \u201cThe answer is yes! And now let\u2019s go straight to the source.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
