{"id":6542,"date":"2024-07-09T13:16:02","date_gmt":"2024-07-09T13:16:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kohajone.press\/?p=6542"},"modified":"2024-07-09T13:16:05","modified_gmt":"2024-07-09T13:16:05","slug":"celine-dion-suffers-unimaginable-medical-crisis-in-new-documentary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kohajone.press\/?p=6542","title":{"rendered":"Celine Dion suffers \u2018unimaginable\u2019 medical crisis in new documentary"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/celine-dion\">Celine Dion<\/a>&nbsp;is giving fans a raw look at her life with stiff person syndrome.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In a newly released documentary, the iconic singer suffers a frightening medical crisis during a physical therapy session, and it was all caught on camera.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2022, Dion revealed she had been diagnosed with stiff person syndrome, but in her new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/celine-dion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">documentary<\/a>,\u00a0<em>I Am: Celine Dion<\/em>, the singer shares she had been dealing with symptoms of the rare, progressive neurological disorder for 17 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI need my instrument. And my instrument was not working. So we started to elevate the medicine,\u201d Dion, 56, said after experiencing difficulty hitting certain notes during her 2018 and 2019 tours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although she completed her 2018 tour, Dion was forced to postpone several dates from her 2019 tour due to the \u201ccommon cold\u201d before the pandemic shut it down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her tour resumed in 2022, but once again she had to continue canceling and rescheduling shows. It wasn\u2019t until she announced her diagnosis that she officially canceled the rest of her appearances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI can\u2019t lie anymore,\u201d Dion says in the doc. \u201cFrom a sinus infection to an ear infection to whatever. Sometimes I would point my microphone toward the audience, and I would make them sing it. (Photo by Samir Hussein\/Redferns)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also in the documentary, Dion shares an extremely vulnerable moment where she experiences a full-body spasm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While laying on a massage table and going through some exercises with her physical therapy, Dion\u2019s foot begins to cramp. Within minutes her entire body seizes and locks up to the point where she is unable to communicate with those in the room with her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the camera continues to roll, another member of her medical team comes into the room with benzodiazepine nasal spray and administers it to Dion, who, though motionless, is crying out in pain. The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=VXoCHpWozNY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">video<\/a>&nbsp;is painful to watch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2024\/01\/24140512\/GettyImages-498360650-1-1183x1536-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-143486\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">LOS ANGELES, CA \u2013 NOVEMBER 22: Singer Celine Dion performs onstage during the 2015 American Music Awards at Microsoft Theater on November 22, 2015 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Kevin Winter\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once the spasms have subsided \u2013 they typically last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour \u2013 Dion is able to sit up and speak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEvery time something like this happens, it makes me feel so embarrassed,\u201d she says. \u201cI don\u2019t know how to express it, you know, to not have control over yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her physical therapist speculates the attack was brought on by being \u201coverstimulated\u201d from an earlier singing session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf I can\u2019t get stimulated by what I love, then I\u2019m going to go on stage, and you\u2019re going to put the pulse oximeter on me and turn me on my back?\u201d she wonders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dion hopes that one day soon she\u2019ll be able to return to the stage.
