No matter how much we\u2019d like to believe our\u00a0kids\u00a0are perfect, the stark truth is that none of them are.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, I\u2019m not suggesting the majority of\u00a0parents\u00a0aren\u2019t doing their jobs \u2013 far from it \u2013 merely that childhood is a steep learning curve, one in which virtually all participants will make mistakes they\u2019ll look back on and regret.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps what matters most when such things occur isn\u2019t what has actually happened but rather how said child<\/a> learns from it and moves on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s precisely for this reason that we introduce the concept of punishment early: a\u00a0kid\u00a0does something wrong and they\u2019re forced to suffer the consequences of said act. It\u2019s teaches them a simple lesson and, hopefully*, they don\u2019t do that same thing again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, punishments can vary in degrees, ranging from a metaphorical slap on the wrist to methods that the offending\u00a0child\u00a0won\u2019t likely forget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In any case, one dad\u2019s choice for his daughter certainly sits in the latter of those two categories. She was caught making fun of another student at school who had lost all of her hair to\u00a0chemotherapy. When her dad found out, it\u2019s safe to say he wasn\u2019t impressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He decided to take steps to ensure she never did it again. He shaved her head bald, so that she\u2019d know what it felt like to be in her victim\u2019s shoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Needless to say, his method of rebuke has drawn plenty of criticism online, but he isn\u2019t phased by any of it. On the contrary, he told\u00a0CafeMom\u00a0that he thinks it was a perfectly acceptable reaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also told\u00a0CafeMom\u00a0that his daughter is dating the other girl\u2019s ex-boyfriend, which contributed to the drama that played out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were having an argument in class about stupid teenage gossip regarding my daughter\u2019s boyfriend. At some point the other girl mentioned how my daughter\u2019s boyfriend was just using her for sex (this was actually a big shock to me as I had no idea she was sexually active) and called my daughter a slut.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s what escalated the situation and resulted in the wig incident. Supposedly they have been arguing in class ever since my daughter started dating the guy in question. Basically just stupid teenage \u2018he said she said\u2019 nonsense.<\/em>\u201cNot how I\u2019ve raised my daughter to treat people and it truly disgusted me to hear how she acted from her deputy principle. She showed no remorse. She tried to excuse her behavior by saying the girl in question deserved it. Again, I don\u2019t care what she said, that behavior is inexcusable.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Backlash<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The dad is open about the fact that many people \u2013 the girl\u2019s mother included \u2013 believe he took things too far by forcing her to shave her head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI came up with the punishment because I thought my daughter had an extreme lack of empathy for the girl she bullied,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy daughter knows this and that is what really disgusted me with her behavior. It demonstrated a complete and utter lack of empathy. I hoped that her going to school bald and walking a mile in the other girl\u2019s shoes would teach her a lesson.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
