Shannen Doherty<\/a>\u00a0was spending time with a loved one the last time she was photographed in public before her death.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The late Beverly Hills 90210<\/em> star, who died on July 13 at age 53, was photographed a month earlier on June 16, walking with her longtime friend Chris Cortazzo at Kristy\u2019s Malibu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The real estate agent had his arm around the actress\u2019 shoulder while Doherty carried a bag as they walked together. Doherty was dressed casually in jeans, a gray top, and a black messenger hat. Their closeness was evident in the affectionate way they interacted during their outing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the news of her death, Cortazzo shared an emotional tribute to the late star, writing: \u201cMy beloved friend and heart\u201d alongside a collage of photos of the pair over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat memories and laughter we have shared through this journey,\u201d he wrote on Instagram. \u201cYou were my protector, my best friend and my divine wife. My heart is shattered. I love you forever my sweet dear friend.\u201d He signed the note, \u201cYour Christopher.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In November 2023, Doherty opened up to People<\/a> about her closeness to Cortazzo and his family, saying, \u201cI have a best friend, a male best friend who we joke that we\u2019re married, and his two kids and I have had massive breakthroughs and we just love each other and hang out, and I kind of view them as my children.\u201d This deep bond was a source of comfort and joy for the actress during her difficult times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doherty also shared several photos with Cortazzo on social media. In a September 2023 Instagram<\/a> post, she posted a selfie with Cortazzo, writing: \u201cDinner time @chriscortazzo.\u201d In January, the Charmed<\/em> star shared a photo of herself and Cortazzo, captioning it: \u201cDate night and really really good lighting.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The same month, Cortazzo appeared on Doherty\u2019s podcast Let\u2019s Be Clear<\/em>, where they discussed the Charmed<\/em> alum\u2019s health struggles and their friendship. \u201cDo you know the only time I saw fear in your eyes was when I was\u2026\u201d he began, and she finished, \u201cBrain surgery?\u201d referring to her June 2023 surgery after her cancer had spread to her brain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYes,\u201d he confirmed, and she added: \u201cI did not think I was gonna be me after that surgery.\u201d Cortazzo responded: \u201cI know. But, seeing you and seeing your mom look at you and you looking at your mom \u2018cause it was the three of us and watching you look into each other\u2019s eyes literally broke my heart.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He continued: \u201cYou\u2019re so powerless as a friend cause there\u2019s nothing you can do and you just said, \u2018I love you, mommy\u2019 and you know, we held your hand going down the hallway and then\u2026 your mom had to say goodbye and it was brutal,\u201d as she held back tears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was confirmed on June 14 that Doherty died after years of living with cancer. \u201cIt is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease,\u201d Doherty\u2019s longtime publicist Leslie Sloane shared. \u201cThe devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace,\u201d Sloane continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doherty\u2019s legacy is marked by her impactful career, as well as her strength in the face of adversity.<\/strong><\/p>\n
