(Getty Stock Image)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is thanks, or without thanks actually, to its large mass of granite and brick that is used throughout it \u2013 a jaw dropping feature that has helped keep it a tourist attraction for the last 111 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, believe it or not, the beautiful architecture that is on display was designed and built between 1903 and 1913.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Due to all that granite, it has become more radioactive than what is permitted in nuclear power plants because the rock emits radiation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to\u00a0Department of Energy, certain parts of the station average of 525 mrem per year \u2013 which the measure used to estimate potential health effects of low levels of ionizing radiation on the human body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, if you were just visiting, or even if you worked there, it wouldn\u2019t actually be dangerous at all \u2013 you wouldn\u2019t mutate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.ladbible.com\/resize?type=webp&amp;quality=70&amp;width=3840&amp;fit=contain&amp;gravity=auto&amp;url=https:\/\/images.ladbiblegroup.com\/v3\/assets\/blt949ea8e16e463049\/bltabc0636a5719b2bc\/66b24c5dd1db7348739ed028\/Power-plant.jpg\" alt=\"Grand Central emits more radiation to employees working at the landmark than staff at nuclear power plants across the country.
