Haberman surmised that the offices were evacuated out of \u201cparanoia\u201d following the email hack Trump\u2019s campaign revealed earlier this summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the Times&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/09\/03\/us\/politics\/trump-prank-devices.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report noted<\/a>&nbsp;that the devices that were found were likely put there as a prank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA plastic prank device that can be purchased on Amazon for $13.97 was the cause of the problem,\u201d The Times reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA police report from the West Palm Beach police department, obtained by The New York Times, detailed the incident. Devices were found on Thursday after people heard beeping under a staff member\u2019s desk at the Trump campaign offices. When Trump officials searched, they found additional devices, for a total of three,\u201d the report continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It added:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cFOUND POTENTIAL LISTENING DEVICES \/\/ HEARD BEEPING BY DESKS \/\/ INTERNAL SECURITY ALSO FOUND DEVICE,\u201d the police report reads. The person making the report, according to the document, \u201cTHINKS THEY HAVE FOUND LISTENING DEVICES \u2018BUGS; IN THE OFFICE.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Despite the police presence, officials determined quickly that the devices were likely a prank. No one has owned up to the prank, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>A Trump spokesman didn\u2019t immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The police report said that \u201cabout fifty employees evacuated the suites.\u201d The security official who works for the offices in the building told the police he believed \u201cthe devices were part of a prank. The suites were canvassed for any additional devices and evidence yielding negative results,\u201d according to the document.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Based on the description and price point, the devices appear to have been the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Funny-Pranks-Annoying-Noise-Maker\/dp\/B08KG6XHN1\">AnnoyingPCB<\/a>\u201d \u2014 billed as \u201cthe ultimate gag gift or revenge pranks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, a top pollster has revealed that Vice President Kamala Harris\u2019s lead against Trump in the polls is \u201csteadily cutting.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A recent ActiVote&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/donald-trump-kamala-harris-polls-national-1947838\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">survey<\/a>, conducted from August 25 to September 2, shows that Harris has a 1.6-point advantage over Trump, with 50.8 percent to his 49.2 percent. This edge is within the poll\u2019s 3.1 percent margin of error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the most recent ActiVote poll, which was conducted among 1,000 potential voters between August 15 and 23, she led Trump by five points, but that lead has since shrunk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHarris\u2019 poll numbers improved steadily for about three-four weeks after Biden dropped out, followed by a period of two weeks where it hovered around a 5-point lead. In the past five days that 5-point lead has been steadily cut to just under 2 percent,\u201d ActiVote pollster Victor Allis&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/conservativebrief.com\/kamala-harris-lead-85478\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before Harris\u2019s campaign debut, Trump was ahead of Joe Biden both nationally and in each of the seven swing states. But in the days and weeks following Biden\u2019s conclusion of his reelection campaign, surveys indicated that Harris\u2019s candidacy had given the Democratic campaign fresh vitality, surpassing Trump\u2019s advantage nationally and leading in six of the seven swing states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, other surveys also suggest that Harris\u2019 lead is eroding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the first time since early August, Trump led Harris in the Electoral College on Friday, according to pollster Nate Silver\u2019s forecast model.
