president<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Donald Trump is officially the new president-elect of the United States, meaning he will become the 47th president in January 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For weeks,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/donald-trump\">Donald Trump<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/kamala-harris\">Kamala Harris<\/a>&nbsp;have been battling it out to win the highly sought after seat in The Oval Office.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trump expressed his intentions of running for president again back in November 2022 and, sticking to his word, he was named as the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/republicans\">Republican Party<\/a>\u2018s official presidential candidate over the summer.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>While&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/joe-biden\">President Biden<\/a>&nbsp;had been poised to run again as the Democratic nominee,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/news\/politics\/his%20presidential%20candidacy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">he abandoned his presidential candidacy<\/a>&nbsp;in July.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Vice President Kamala Harris went on to be named as the new Democratic Party\u2019s presidential nominee.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>And now, Donald Trump has proven victorious and secured&nbsp;his spot at the White House, with his win coming after he secured 270 electoral votes thanks to a projected win the key battleground state of Wisconsin, according to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/politics\/live-news\/election-trump-harris-11-06-24\/index.html?t=1730889227345\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer withdrawing from the presidential race.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Members of the public had grown increasingly concerned about the 81-year-old\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unilad.com\/health\">health<\/a>, especially as he contracted Covid-19 which ground his campaign to a halt.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Addressing his decision to step down, Biden said he thought it was in the \u2018best interest\u2019 of the Democratic Party.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cIt has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President,\u201d part of his statement read. \u201cAnd while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" replacement for the Democrats in the presidential race, but she wasn\u2019t officially named as the party\u2019s nominee until August, and formally accepted the nomination on August 23.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In a moving speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Harris told the crowd,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/harris-dnc-speech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">as per<\/a>&nbsp;CBS News: \u201cMy entire career, I\u2019ve only had one client: the people.
