Law Roach, the stylist behind many of Zendaya’s most memorable red-carpet appearances, says he has moved beyond the resentment he once felt toward fashion houses that rejected the actress early in her career. During an interview with Ziwe Fumudoh, Roach reflected on his past frustrations, explaining that holding onto anger can be damaging and that he has chosen to let much of that negativity go.
Roach previously said that he had avoided major brands including Saint Laurent, Dior, Valentino, Chanel, and Gucci after being turned down when he sought clothing for Zendaya as a rising young actress. He recalled being told that she was too inexperienced or not yet prominent enough for certain fashion opportunities. Those experiences reportedly influenced his decision to keep the brands away from Zendaya’s red-carpet wardrobe while he continued building her fashion profile.
Although Roach now says he has “outgrown” that pettiness—and even appeared wearing Saint Laurent during the interview—he made it clear that his feelings about Zendaya’s red-carpet choices have not completely changed. He noted that she has worn some of those designers for editorial projects, but said their red-carpet relationship is different because he remembers how they treated her when she was still establishing herself in Hollywood.

Despite the fashion industry’s past tensions, Roach and Zendaya have developed a remarkably strong creative partnership. Their work together has produced elaborate press-tour looks inspired by her films, characters, and public appearances. Roach has also described their relationship as exceptionally close, saying they can be best friends, advisers, rivals, or like siblings. Their long-running collaboration continues to demonstrate how trust and creativity can shape a distinctive fashion identity.
