Many travelers attach bright ribbons, straps, or other decorations to their suitcases so they can quickly spot their bags at the airport carousel. While this can make luggage easier to recognize, large or loosely attached accessories may sometimes create problems during baggage handling.
Modern airports rely heavily on automated systems to scan luggage tags and direct bags to the correct destination. If a ribbon or another item covers the barcode or hangs in a way that interferes with scanning, the bag may require additional manual handling instead of moving smoothly through the system.
This does not mean every ribbon will cause your luggage to be delayed or left behind. The potential problem is mainly with oversized decorations or anything positioned close to the luggage tag. A small, securely attached identifier that stays away from the barcode is much less likely to interfere with the scanning process.
If you want your suitcase to stand out, consider using a distinctive color or pattern on the luggage itself, or choose a compact tag that does not cover important information. Before checking your bag, make sure the airline tag is firmly attached and that the barcode remains completely visible.
A few seconds of preparation can make airport travel easier. Your luggage should be easy for both you and the baggage system to identify, so keep decorations secure and away from the tag. That simple habit can reduce unnecessary handling and help your suitcase move through the airport without avoidable complications.
