Early one morning, I was walking along the beach when something unusual caught my attention on the shore. The sand around it was still wet, but the creature didn’t appear to have simply washed up with the tide. Instead, the water seemed to have pulled away from it, leaving a strange gap between its body and the ocean. Curious, I stepped closer to see what I had found.
Then I realized it was alive. “It was breathing.” Its movements were slow and deliberate, with its body gently expanding and contracting. I should have kept my distance, but curiosity made me crouch nearby. Its appearance was unlike anything I had ever seen, with layers of glassy, almost transparent tissue covering parts of its body.
Beneath that strange surface, dark lines seemed to move slowly, almost like underwater currents flowing through its body. Its tail suddenly twitched against the wet sand, leaving behind a faint trail that looked almost like ash. I stood frozen, trying to understand what I was seeing, when another sound came from the water.
The noise was deep and heavy, as though something enormous was moving beneath the waves. Even stranger, the ocean seemed unusually still. The waves appeared to hesitate before reaching the shore, creating an eerie silence around the creature. I began to wonder whether whatever was in front of me was connected to what was happening farther out at sea.
Then the creature moved again. Its tail shifted with surprising force, and I noticed something I hadn’t seen before. It wasn’t simply lying helplessly on the sand. Its body seemed to be positioned deliberately, almost as though it were directing my attention somewhere. But it wasn’t pointing toward the ocean. Somehow, unmistakably, it was pointing directly at me.
